Irene Newman Francis, 82, passed away on Monday, May 21, 2007 at her daughter's home in Perry, Utah. She was born on December 3, 1924 in Murray, Utah, a daughter of William McKean and Matilda Price Newman. She was raised on the family ranch inRos ette, UT. Irene married Peter Earl Francis on October 3, 1943 in Mesa, Arizona. Their marriage was later solemnized in the Ogden LDS Temple. He preceded her in death on September 22, 1995. She was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ ofLatter-d ay Saints, where she held many positions in Sunday School, Young Women's and Relief Society. She also served in the ward scouting program and as a merit badge counselor. Irene encourage and helped all of her 10 grandsons receive theirEagle Scout Rank. She was a member of the Three Mile Creek Camp of the Daughters of the Utah Pioneers. She also served many years on the county board of the Daughters of the Utah Pioneers. Irene helped open up the cabin that was located at ReesPioneer Park. She enjoyed the many holiday open houses at the cabin. Irene worked at the Defense Depot Ogden working in the Support Systems for the computer room. She retired in 1981. She enjoyed quilting and knitting. She made quilts, afghan'sand Christmas s ocks for each grandchild. Irene also enjoyed family vacations and gardening, she especially enjoyed raising and harvesting peaches. Surviving are one son, Kenneth N. ‎(Nanci)‎ Francis, Fruit Heights; one daughter, Kathleen F. ‎(Terry)‎Jones, Perry; o ne daughter-in- law, Marsha Francis, Perry; 12 grandchildren, 8 great grandchildren and one great-great grandchild. Also surviving are one brother, David Newman, Bakersfield, CA; three sisters, Thelma Tracy, Magna, UT; Rachel Robbs,Rupert, ID; Ha zel Brown, Moses Lake, WA. She was preceded in death by her husband, one son, L. Jack Francis and one granddaughter, Brooke Suzanne Jones. Funeral services will be held on Friday, May 25, 2007 at 11:00 a.m. at the Perry 6th WardChapel, 2415 South Park Drive, Perry. Family will meet friends on Thursday, May 24th from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the Gillies Funeral Chapel, 634 East 200 South, Brigham City and on Friday at the church from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. Interment will be inthe Brigham City Cem etery.
