Died Centerville, Davis County, Utah, on June 6, 1886.

Joined the Later Day Saints Church at about thirty years of age.
Presided over Conference held April 5-6, 1845 at Stuben, Co., New York – Ossian East Branch. Baptized five. Cut off five.

In 1847 entrained with his family to Council Bluffs, Ia. Two years later, 1949, in company with Capt. Cully, crossed the plains to Utah, settling in Centerville,, Davis County.

Called to England in 1853 on LDS Mission. In 1855 was appointed President of the ?adding British Mission by Franklin D. Richards.

April 12, 1856, ‎(en route home from British Mission)‎, was ordered to report to Daniel Spencer, to assist in bringing LDS members westward to Utah. Arrived in Salt Lake City, September 26, 1856.

He was assigned as purchaser of supplies in the first handcart company in charge of Edmund Ellsworth. They left Council Bluffs, June 9. In this Company was Ellen Harrod and Adelaide Gyde, whom he later married in Salt Lake City. The first two han dcart companies, when leaving Council Bluffs, consisted of 497 persons; 100 handcarts; 5 wagons; 24 oxen; 4 mules; and 25 tents.
